It is a Shinto teaching in the form of a revelation (oracle) from the gods of Ise Shrine (Amaterasu Omikami Shrine), Iwashimizu Hachiman Shrine, and Kasuga Taisha Shrine. Its origin is unknown. One theory, for example, is that in 1658 (Meireki 4) Itako's "Sansha Takusensho" (Sansha Takusensho), it is written that during the Shoo era (1288-93), the characters for the Sansha Takusen clearly appeared in the water of a pond in front of the garden of Todaiji Temple in Nara. 伊勢(いせ)神宮(天照皇太神宮(てんしょうこうたいじんぐう))・石清水八幡(いわしみずはちまん)宮・春日(かすが)大社三社の神のお告げ(託宣)という形式で、神道(しんとう)の教化的な教義としたもの。起源由来などは不詳。一説として、たとえば1658年(明暦4)板行の『三社託宣鈔(しょう)』には正応(しょうおう)年間(1288~93)に奈良東大寺庭前の池水に三社託宣の文字が明らかに現れた由を記す。その文字は次のとおり。
