San-sagari

Japanese:
San-sagari
The name of the shamisen tuning. The 3rd string of honchoshi is lowered by a major 2, and the interval between all open strings is a perfect 4th. When the 1st string of niagari is raised by a major 2, it is called takasan-sagari. Along with honchoshi and niagari, this is a typical tuning, and most Nagauta Meriyasumono and Fujie-ryu Kokyu pieces are in this tuning. In jiuta, while shamisen honte and Nagautamono are almost always in honchoshi, this tuning was first widely used in hautamono.
