The unit of currency has been 1 ruble = 100 kopeikas consistently since the 18th century, but the minted copper and silver coins had different names, such as altyn for 3 kopek copper coins, pyatachok for 5 kopek copper coins, and grivennik for 10 kopek silver coins. From 1769, paper money called assignatsiya was issued, but its value continued to fall against the standard silver coins, and in 1812 it was converted to 4 paper money rubles = 1 silver ruble. In 1739, the Minister of Finance Egor Frantsevich Kankrin (1774-1845) reformed the currency, and in 1843, credit notes were issued instead. ...
