Industrial infrastructure

Japanese: 産業基盤 - さんぎょうきばん

A general term for facilities that are essential for the development and growth of industry. It includes industrial land, water, roads, bridges, railways, ports, airports, power generation facilities, technology development organizations, industrial training and education organizations, hospitals, nurseries, etc. From an economic perspective, industrial infrastructure is part of social capital. Social capital is distinguished from productive capital that is directly related to the production activities of companies, but can be classified by function into (1) those with a production function, such as housing complexes, water, roads, and ports; (2) those with a welfare function, such as hospitals, parks, and recreational facilities; and (3) those with a land conservation function, such as forestry and flood control facilities.

産業の育成，発展にとって不可欠な施設の総称。産業用地，用水，道路，橋，鉄道，港湾，空港，発電施設などをはじめ，技術開発機関や産業訓練，教育のための機関，病院，保育園などをも含む。　産業基盤は，経済学的な観点からいえば社会資本の一部である。社会資本は企業の生産活動に直接関連する生産資本と区別されるが，機能別には，(1)団地，用水，道路，港湾など生産機能をもつもの，(2)病院，公園，レクリエーション施設など福祉機能をもつもの，(3)治山･治水施設など国土保全機能をもつもの，などに分類できる。
