…In 1911, he became a professor at the Technical University of Charlottenburg, and in 1913, he became director of the coal research institute of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society in the Ruhr. In 1923, together with Hans Tropsch (1889-1935), he succeeded in the so-called Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, a method of synthesizing hydrocarbons from carbon monoxide and hydrogen under normal pressure, and announced it in 1926. This synthesis method, also known as the Fischer process, was industrialized in Germany, Japan, France, and other countries around the time of World War II, and played an important role in the production of liquid fuels from coal as part of the artificial petroleum industry. …

...A method for synthesizing liquid hydrocarbon fuels by the hydrogenation reaction of carbon monoxide. It was invented in the early 1920s by Germany's F. Fischer and Hans Tropsch (1889-1935), and is therefore also called the Fischer-Tropsch process. Coal is gasified and turned into synthesis gas consisting of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, and liquid fuels can then be synthesized using this method, so it can be considered an indirect coal liquefaction method.
