An archipelago lying like stepping stones between the northeastern peninsula of Sulawesi and the Philippine island of Mindanao in northeastern Indonesia. It consists of the islands of Sangihe, Siau, and Biaro. All are mountainous and volcanic. The inhabitants are mainly Minahasan people, most of whom are Christians.
