Dislike - Dislike

Japanese: 去嫌 - さりきらい
Dislike - Dislike
〘Noun〙① A general term for prohibitions in renga, wakan renga, haikai, and other forms of poetry that value change and dislike repetition and stagnation, to prevent the use of the same characters or the same things in close proximity in one volume. It is thought to have been a term dating back to the Edo period, and in the Muromachi period it was called "kiraimono" (things that are disliked) . In renga, the main items in the renga form are items that should be separated by two lines, items that should be separated by three lines, items that should be separated by five lines, items that should be separated by seven lines, etc., and are also called two lines removed, three lines removed, five lines removed, and seven lines removed, respectively, or two lines removed, three lines removed, five lines removed, and seven lines removed. Other examples include items that should not be used on the same side of a renga kaishi, and items that should not be used on the same fold. In Wakan Renku and Haikai, the five-phrase 'Kiri' in Renga became three-phrase, and the three-phrase 'Kiri' became two-phrase, and so on. 'Kiri'. * Haikai, Gokasa (1651), preface: "The page on the other side advanced and said, 'Though it is true, if it is not something that is disliked, I should not be so humble.'" ② Likes and dislikes. Picky. * Koyo Gunkan (beginning of the 17th century), item 15: "Since there are many people, I think it would be a pity to display the props so disliked." ③ (derived from ①) Something that should not be done. Foul play. * Joruri, Sekitori Nidai Shobutsuki (1768), "In the sumo match just now, there was a taboo in the gait, which I found particularly unpleasant ." ④ In Noh, a phrase used in a chant at a celebration or a departure, which describes something as something that is disliked. Examples include "noku," "saru," and "kaeru" at a wedding, and "shizumu" and "arashi" when setting sail. [Etymology] "Suru" and "kiau" are the same in the spirit of avoiding a volume of renga from flowing flatly, but when the main focus is on the number of lines, it is expressed as "suru" (how many lines), and when the main focus is on prohibiting the appearance of a certain word, it is thought to be expressed as "kiau," and so both expressions can be seen for the same content. It is an important concept in renga, and is used frequently, so it is thought that the shift in meaning to ② and ③ arose from it.
