...A freshwater fish of the family Cobicidae. The genus name Niwaella was given in honor of Hisashi Niwa, who named this species, when the genus name was changed (the original genus name was Cobitis ). The specific name delicata means delicious.

There are 6 genera and 10 species and subspecies of fish in the Cobitididae family in Japan. They are broadly divided into the genus Cobitis , which has a spine on the lower edge of the eye, the genus Niwaella , the genus Leptobotia , which has no spine, the genus Misgurnus , the genus Barbatula , and the genus Lefua . The genus B. toni, which belongs to the genus B. toni , is only found in Hokkaido in Japan, and people in Hokkaido simply call it loach, and distinguish it from the common loach by calling it Naichidojo (inland anchovy).
