Thermography

[ I ] A copying method that utilizes the thermal effect of infrared rays. The original and heat-sensitive layer are placed in close contact and irradiated with infrared rays; an image is created by utilizing the rise in temperature caused by infrared absorption in the image area. Many different methods have been devised, and an image can be formed quickly and dry, but the resolution is inferior to photographic methods due to the diffusion of heat. [ II ] A method that detects infrared rays emitted from an object and displays the temperature distribution as an image pattern. Also known as infrared mapping. Using semiconductor infrared detectors such as In-Sb and Ge, the temperature distribution of tiny parts of the object is depicted as light and shade on a display. It is becoming increasingly widely used to inspect abnormally hot parts of machinery, detect abnormalities in the human body, and for other purposes.

【Ⅰ】赤外線の熱作用を利用する複写法．原稿と感熱層を密着させて赤外線を照射し，画像部での赤外線吸収による温度上昇を利用して画像をつくる．多種の方式が考案され，短時間にドライで画像形成ができるが，熱の拡散のため写真方式に比べて解像力は劣る．【Ⅱ】物体から発する赤外線を検出して，温度分布を画像パターンとして表示する方法．赤外マッピングともいう．In-Sb，Geなどの半導体赤外検知器によって，対象物の微小部分の温度分布をディスプレイに濃淡として描く．機械の異常発熱部の検査，人体の異常部発見，そのほか広く利用されつつある．
