T.Koyama (illustration), which is also found on the ridges and marshes of rice paddies, is characterized by a single spikelet at the top of a thin stem. F. squarrosa Vahl, which has small yellowish-brown spikelets, and F. dipsacea CBClarke ssp. verrucifera (Maxim.) T.Koyama, which is entirely green, are also weeds in rice paddies. F. sericea R.Br., which grows on coastal sandy soil, has leaves covered with silvery-white hairs.
