Kato Shidao, Kato Chikage, Murata Shunkai and other disciples of Kamo Mabuchi became central figures after Mabuchi's death and became the mainstream of the poetry world in the late early modern period. While their teacher Mabuchi was in the style of the Manyoshu, this school blended the Kokinshu and Shin Kokinshu styles with the liberal tastes of Edo.
