A French woman of letters. From a young age, she was highly regarded as a brilliant woman at the salon of Madame de Rambouillet, and influenced the brilliant female feminists known as Précieuse. In later years, she held her own salon, where people of Jansenist descent gathered to discuss thought and literature. It was at this salon that it became popular to write short, sharp, truth-getting maxims, and Madame de Sablé herself printed her own "Aphorisms" (1678). It is particularly noteworthy that La Rochefoucauld's famous "Proverbs" was born from discussions at this salon.

フランスの女流文人。若年の時から才女としてランブイエ侯夫人のサロンで評判が高く，プレシューズと呼ばれる才女の女権論者たちに影響を与えた。後年，自身もサロンを開き，特にジャンセニスト系の人々が集まり，思想，文学を論じた。短い文の中に鋭く真理をえぐるマクシム(格言)を書くのが流行したのはこのサロンであり，サブレ夫人自身も《格言集》(1678)を印刷しているが，特にラ･ロシュフーコーの名高い《箴言（しんげん）集》が，このサロンでの論議から生まれたことが注目される。
