〘 noun 〙 In the Edo period, the liaison officer for the feudal lords' families, in charge of social relations and liaison with the shogunate. The person in charge of collecting information from the families. The person in charge of listening. ※Joruri, Kashiwazaki (around 1698) 3 "These are not sincere priests, but rather the listeners for the fifty-three members of our family."
