Savignac - Raymond Savignac

Savignac - Raymond Savignac

French poster artist. Born in Paris. After graduating from the École Lavoisier, he met Cassandre in 1935 and became his collaborator. In 1949, after a joint exhibition with Bernard Villemot (1911-1989), his poster for a soap company, "Mon Savon," attracted attention. His free and flowing lines and eccentric images, full of a kind of humor, were called "visual scandals," and the artist himself was nicknamed "Shock Man." In addition to creating posters for general companies, UNICEF, the National Library, and the Poster Museum, he also designed the set and costumes for Molière's "The Miser," which was performed by the Comédie-Française in 1969.

Although he was not particularly active in the 1970s, he began to show a strong creative drive again in the 1980s, triggered by a job for the car company Citroën, and in 1984 he produced the poster " Euro '84 Final " for the European Football Championship Final in Paris. In 1987, a collection of his works, "Savignac: The A to Z of Posters," was published. In September 2001, towards the end of his life, an exhibition of Savignac's work was held at the Bibliotheque Ferney in Paris, and Savignac himself, now over 90 years old, made an appearance at the exhibition in good health.
