Kayano Houri

...A native of Kochi City. His pen name was Houri. As a boy, he went to Shanghai to learn Chinese, and eventually became a supporter of the Chinese Revolution alongside Miyazaki Torazo (Toten). His activities were diverse, but he was deeply involved in the organization of the Chinese Revolutionary Party and became an advisor. He was the only Japanese person to be called to the deathbed of Sun Yat-sen. After the Manchurian Incident, he became a secret emissary of Prime Minister Inukai Tsuyoshi and went to negotiate peace, but was unsuccessful. After the war, he was appointed by imperial decree to the House of Peers. His adopted daughter, Hanae, is the daughter of Kuomintang elder statesman Kyosho. [Hasama Naoki]...
