Yoshitsugu Ogasawara

Yoshitsugu Ogasawara
1548-1616 A daimyo in the early Edo period.
Born in 1515. He served Matsudaira Tadayoshi, the fourth son of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and lord of Musashi-Oshi Castle (Saitama Prefecture), as his chief retainer. In 1602, when Tadayoshi was transferred to Kiyosu Castle in Owari (Aichi Prefecture), he became lord of Inuyama Castle. After Tadayoshi's death, he became lord of Sakura Domain in Shimousa (Chiba Prefecture), and in 1616, he became lord of Kasama Domain (30,000 koku) in Hitachi (Ibaraki Prefecture), but the following year he was implicated in a family dispute within his lord's family and was stripped of his title. He died on August 15, 1616, at the age of 69.

天文(てんぶん)17年生まれ。徳川家康の4男武蔵(むさし)忍(おし)城(埼玉県)城主松平忠吉につかえ,筆頭家老となる。慶長5年忠吉の尾張(おわり)(愛知県)清洲城への移封にしたがい犬山城主。忠吉の死後,下総(しもうさ)佐倉藩(千葉県)藩主をへて慶長13年常陸(ひたち)(茨城県)笠間藩(3万石)藩主となるが,翌年主家のお家騒動に連座して改易となった。元和(げんな)2年8月15日死去。69歳。
