Army Pamphlet Incident - Rikugun Pamphlet Incident
In October 1934, the Army Ministry's Press Section published and distributed a pamphlet entitled "The True Meaning of National Defense and Proposals for Its Strengthening," which claimed that "in order to strengthen national defense, it is necessary to reform the economic system and other areas," and caused a controversy. This was seen as a demonstration by the Army before the budget was compiled, but political parties and the media strongly opposed it. The military desperately tried to explain, and eventually the political parties stopped fighting back, but after the Manchurian Incident (1931), the military began to make more political statements.
