It resembles a Japanese white-eye of the white-eye family, but is slightly larger, with a total length of about 13.5 centimeters. Its back is olive-colored, its face and belly are yellowish, and it has black spots around its eyes. It is a native of the Ogasawara Islands. It is a forest-dwelling bird that eats insects. [2][1] One of the 23 wards of Tokyo. It was established in 1932 by the merger of Meguro and Hibusuma towns in Ebara County, which were incorporated into Tokyo City. It is located on Megurodai and Ebaradai, which are part of the Musashino Plateau. It developed as a residential area after the Great Kanto Earthquake. It is home to the College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Tokyo and the Tokyo Institute of Technology. [2] The name of a place in Meguro Ward, Tokyo. Formerly Meguro Town, Ebara County. It was incorporated into Tokyo City in 1932. It is divided into Kamimeguro, Nakameguro, Meguro, and Shimomeguro, and was a bamboo shoot production area from the Edo period to the end of the Taisho period. It is home to Meguro Fudo, Takoyakushi (Jojuin), Yutenji, and Enyu-ji.

[1] 〘名〙① 目の中央の黒い部分。黒目。※塩原多助一代記(1885)〈三遊亭円朝〉一「女が髪乱打振(ふりがみぶっ)て眼睛(メグロ)まわしてほっこりきゑッたって云やんすから」② 鮪(まぐろ)の小さいもの。めぐろうお。〔日葡辞書(1603‐04)〕※俳諧・類船集(1676)安「安房〈略〉目黒かつほ」③ ミツスイ科の小鳥。メジロ科のメジロに似るが、やや大きく、全長約一三・五センチメートル。背面はオリーブ色で、顔から腹面は黄色を帯び、眼の周囲をおおう黒斑がある。小笠原諸島特産。森林性で昆虫食。[2][一] 東京都二三区の一つ。昭和七年(一九三二)東京市に編入された荏原郡目黒・碑衾(ひぶすま)の二町が合併して成立。武蔵野台地の一部をなす目黒台・荏原台にある。関東大震災後、住宅地として発展。東京大学教養学部・東京工業大学などがある。[二] 東京都目黒区の地名。旧荏原郡目黒町。昭和七年(一九三二)東京市に編入。上目黒・中目黒・目黒・下目黒などに分かれ、江戸時代から大正末期にかけては筍(たけのこ)の産地。目黒不動・蛸薬師(成就院)・祐天寺・円融寺などがある。
