Japanese: 薩藩海軍史 - さっぱんかいぐんし

A historical work. Three volumes. A large work of 3,391 pages. Edited by Vice Admiral Togo Kichitaro, it was published by the Shimazu Family Editorial Office in 1928-29. As the saying goes, "This book is not so much a naval history as it is a naval maritime history." After the first volume, which covers the past, the book mainly describes the Western-style industrial civilization, foreign negotiations, and state affairs of the Satsuma Domain under the three generations of Shimazu Narioki, Nariakira, and Tadayoshi during the 63 years at the end of the Edo period, 1809-1872 (Bunka 6-Meiji 5), based on fundamental historical materials from both within and outside the domain.
