The term originates from the rhapsoidia, a fragment of an epic poem, mainly by Homer, recited by ancient Greek bards. By extension, it is a poem of extremely passionate expression. In music, it refers to a free-form instrumental piece with improvised musical ideas that emerged after Romanticism, and is translated as rhapsody. Orchestral pieces, concerto-form works, and piano pieces by F.
