The basic unit of magnetic moment of atomic nuclei and elementary particles. If the elementary charge is e, the Planck constant is h, and the rest mass of the proton is m _p , then the nuclear magneton μ _N is eh/4πm _p = 5.051× ^10-27 J/T (Joules/Tesla), which is approximately 1/1850 the size of the Bohr magneton of an electron. The magnetic moments of protons and neutrons should be 1 and 0, respectively, using the nuclear magneton as a unit, but in reality the magnetic moment of the proton is 2.79 times the nuclear magneton, and that of the neutron is -1.91 times.
