Saskatchewan is located almost in the center of Canada's 10 provinces. Its area is 651,900 km2 and its population is 1.02 million (1995). Its capital and largest city is Regina. Immigrants from Central and Eastern Europe, including Germans and Ukrainians, make up about one-third of the population, and the proportion of Indians is higher than in other provinces. The northern third of the province is part of the Canadian Shield, while the southern two-thirds is flat and made up of prairies. However, the two great rivers of North and South Saskatchewan meander through the prairies, providing a rich and varied landscape. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
