Saskatchewan River

Japanese: サスカチェワン[川]（英語表記）Saskatchewan River

A river in central Canada. The upper reaches of the South Saskatchewan and North Saskatchewan rivers originate in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, flow east through the prairie plateaus of Alberta and Saskatchewan, join together east of Prince Albert, and then flow eastward into Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba. The longest length of the river (from the source of the North Saskatchewan River) is 1,940 km. In the past, it was used for the fur trade, but now it is used for hydroelectric power generation and irrigation. The middle and lower reaches are rich wheat fields.

カナダ中部の川。上流部のサウス･サスカチェワン，ノース･サスカチェワン川はそれぞれカナディアン･ロッキー山脈中に発し，アルバータ，サスカチェワン両州のプレーリー台地を東流，プリンス･アルバート東方で合流し，さらに東流してマニトバ州のウィニペグ湖に注ぐ。この間の最大の長さ(ノース･サスカチェワン川源流から)は1940km。古くは毛皮交易に利用されたが，現在は水力発電，灌漑に利用されている。中･下流域は豊かな小麦地帯となっている。
