Mizushima Nada

Located in the center of the Seto Inland Sea, this body of water is surrounded by the Kojima Peninsula in Okayama Prefecture, the Shiwaku Islands, and the Kasaoka Islands. A large area of ​​the northern part of the area has been turned into land through reclamation and land reclamation in the lower reaches of the Takahashi River, forming the Mizushima coastal industrial area. In Shimotsui, Yobimatsu, Yorishima, and other areas, coastal fishing and shallow-sea aquaculture were thriving, but fishing has declined due to the deterioration of water quality caused by the creation of industrial areas.

瀬戸内海中央部、岡山県の児島(こじま)半島と塩飽(しわく)諸島、笠岡(かさおか)諸島に囲まれた水域。北部は高梁(たかはし)川下流域の干拓や埋立てにより広範囲が陸化され、水島臨海工業地域となっている。下津井(しもつい)、呼松(よびまつ)、寄島(よりしま)などでは沿岸漁業や浅海養殖が盛んであったが、工業地域造成による水質の悪化などのため、漁業は衰退している。
