Persian art under the Sassanid Empire from the 3rd to 7th centuries. It inherited and blossomed traditional Persian culture, marking the end of Ancient Oriental art. Many rock reliefs are known as expressions of powerful kingship. Representative examples include "Investiture of Ardashir I" and "Victory of Shapur I" at Naqsh-e-Rostam (→Naqsh-e-Rostam ruins), and the "Imperial Hunting Scene" in the Taq-e Bostan Cave. Parthian architecture was influenced by the country, with domes and iwans developed, and remains include the palace of Ctesiphon and the palace of Ardashir I at Firuzabad. Many of the crafts, including gold and silverware, glassware, and silk textiles, are valuable items that recall the cultural exchange along the Silk Road.
