〘Noun〙① A type of instrument used in folk performing arts. The ends of bamboo are split into small pieces and tied together, about 30 centimeters long. Sound is produced by rubbing this against a "sasarako②". It is also called "surirusa" to distinguish it from "binzasara". It was used to accompany songs and storytelling, such as dengaku, sekkyo, and uta saibun. *Senshusho (around 1250) 5 "The monk who cleared his mind by rubbing his sasara, played with his hands, and paid no attention to anyone else was in attendance."② A percussion instrument used in folk performing arts. It is made by joining together several dozen thin , strip- shaped boards, and stitching the tops together with string. The boards on both ends are held in both hands and struck together to produce sound. Binzasara. Sasara wood. ※Eika (around 1028-92), Gosoki: "It was called Dengaku, and (abbreviated) flute players and sasara (a type of instrument) performed various dances." ③ Something carved into stages. 〘名〙① 民俗芸能の楽器の一種。竹の先をこまかく割って束ねたもので、長さ三〇センチメートルぐらいのもの。これを「ささらこ②」にすり合わせて音を出す。「びんざさら」と区別して「摺り簓」ともいう。田楽、説経、歌祭文などの謡い物、語り物の伴奏に用いた。※撰集抄（1250頃）五「ささらをすりて心を澄まし、うそうちぶいて、人に目もかけぬ僧一人侍り」② 民俗芸能の打楽器の一つ。短冊(たんざく)型の薄い板を数十枚合わせて、その上端をひもでつづり合わせたもの。両端の板を両手で持ち、打ち合わせたりなどして音を出す。びんざさら。ささら木。※栄花（1028‐92頃）御裳着「田楽といひて、〈略〉笛吹き、ささらといふ物突き、さまざまの舞して」③ 段をつけてきざんだもの。板を並べて張るための材など。特に、大形和船のやぐらの控(ひかえ)（建築の梁に同じ）から控に渡す角材で、やぐら上面を構成するとともに、やぐら板を張るための材。※新造精帳書（1863）「一、三百目松六尋角壱本、道ひかへ・ささら」④ 竹をこまかく割りたばねたもので、たわし、ブラシなどの用をするもの。※風俗画報‐六〇号（1893）人事門「牛丁は長さ三尺許なる竹のササラを手にして〈略〉牛体を叩き」⑤ ①のように先がこまかに裂け割れたもの。※風俗画報‐一五五号（1897）王子公園「末をば筰(ササラ)になしたる青竹を杖つき」⑥ 物をすりへらすこと、また、用をなさなくなったもののたとえ。⑦ (「ささらおとどり」の略) 鳥「もず（百舌）」の異名。
