A silver trophy awarded to the winner of the men's national tournament organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). In 1900, an English-American tennis match was held with the aim of deepening international friendship, and the trophy was donated for the winner by DF Davis, an American Harvard University student. Since 1907, more and more countries, mainly from Europe, have joined the competition for the cup, and it has grown into a global sporting event officially called the International Lawn Tennis Championships and commonly known as the Davis Cup. Japan participated for the first time in 1921. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
