Sasakibe-so

Japanese:
Sasakibe-so
It is also called "Sasaibe-no-sho" or "Sasabe-no-sho". It was a manor of Yamashiro Matsuo Shrine (Matsuo Taisha) established in Sasaibe-go, Amada-gun, Tanba Province ("Wamyo-sho"), and is considered to be the area of Maeda, Tsuchi, Toda, Ishihara (Isa), and Kawakita in Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto Prefecture. The Amada River (Yura River) flows through it, and the area downstream from Sakai in Sasaibe-sho was the place where Matsuo Shrine provided food. This area became Matsuo Shrine's territory in 1091, with a donation from Tanba Kanesada, former head priest of Amada County. Later, Matsuo Shrine's chief priest Yorichika established the manor as the main family of Matsuo Shrine, and the lordship was passed down to his son, Sarai, and his descendants (the Azuma clan). This manor had a strong kitchen-like character, and there were cormorant fishers within the manor, and an important duty was to provide fresh fish such as salmon and sweetfish to Matsuo Shrine. They also served as night watchmen and housekeepers, and a system of 12 guards (banto) was formed for this purpose. In 1186, Kajiwara Kagetoki was appointed as the magistrate of the manor by the Kanto shobun, and after Kagetoki's downfall, a jito was appointed. Thereafter, disputes with the jito and jitodai continued throughout the Kamakura period, but with the assurance of the shogunate, the shrine continued to exist as a shrine territory into the Muromachi period.
