1326‐70 (Kareya 1‐Kentoku 1/Oan 3) A military commander during the Nanboku-cho period. He was the eldest son of Omi Shugo Sasaki (Rokkaku) Tokinobu, and his childhood name was Senjumaru. His Buddhist name was Suei. He succeeded his father Tokinobu and served as Omi Shugo from the Kenmu era (1334-38) until June 1351 (Shohei 6, Kan'o 2), and from October 1354 (Shohei 9, Bunwa 3) until his death in June 1370. In his later years, he became the head of the shogunate and played an important role in the shogunate's administration. Eigen-ji Temple in the eastern part of Lake Koto was a Zen temple built by Ujiyori in 1361 (Shohei 16, Koan 1) with Jakushitsu Genko as its founder. The temple name is said to be a combination of the "Ei" from Ujiyori's Buddhist name Suei and the "Minamoto" from the Genji clan. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
