…After France installed Archduke Maximilian as Emperor of Mexico (1864-67), the provisional government moved to Paso del Norte. After Ignacio Zaragoza defeated the French and destroyed the monarchy, he was re-elected president in 1867, establishing the victory of the Republic. He was re-elected in 1871, but from this time the country split into three factions, the Juarez faction, the Lerdo faction, and the Diaz faction, which ultimately led to an uprising by P. Diaz, but was temporarily suppressed by the death of Juarez. …
