Fushinan - Fushinan

Japanese:
Fushinan - Fushinan

A representative tea room of the Omotesenke school. When the Sen family was re-established in front of Honpoji Temple in Kyoto, the second head tea master Shoan built a deep three-tatami daime tea room and a three-tatami doan-gakoi tea room. The third head tea master Sotan then built a one-and-a-half-tatami room without a bed, which he called Fushin'an. Fushin'an was also Rikyu's pseudonym, and it is said that the four-and-a-half-tatami room he built in front of the gates of Daitokuji had a plaque reading "Fushinan." In 1647 (Shoho 4), the fourth head tea master Koshin folded up the one-and-a-half-tatami room he had inherited and built a new three-tatami flat daime tea room. This is the Fushin'an that survives in the Omotesenke school, and the current one was rebuilt in 1913 (Taisho 2). The light exterior, with its gabled roof and eaves, is a typical example of a thatched hut teahouse, and the interior shows Rikyu's neat daime-gura technique, with the central pillar at the center. The toko (alcove) is located in front of the nijiriguchi (nijiriguchi), and the serving entrance is located next to the toko. The tea ceremony entrance is located in a sliding door at the end of the brazier (furo) of the tea ceremony seat, and wooden tatami mats are added to the kitchen, creating a unique structure.
