[1] [noun] A book or document on music. ※Shiji Sho (1477) 20 “The words are likened to the writing of music books today, and the rise and fall of music in ancient times.” [2] A Chinese book on music. 200 volumes. Written by Chen Yang . Published in the Song dynasty. Volumes 1-95 explain the meanings and readings of Chinese characters found in the Three Rites, Poetry, Calligraphy, Spring and Autumn Annals, Book of Changes, Book of Filial Piety, Analects, and Mencius. Volumes 96 and onward discuss early music, including the meaning of musical rules, instruments, and movements.
