A medieval warrior of Kawachi who called himself the Montoku Genji. His base was in Sakato (To) Maki in the same province. His connection with Sakado dates back to the 11th century, when Tadanori, the son of Minamoto no Kinnori (the son of Fujiwara no Ikue, the governor of Echizen Province, and the adopted son of Montoku Genji no Akitsune) is known to have lived in Sakado. Kinnori was also Fujiwara no Michinaga's household steward and Kawachi no Kami, and it is believed that he gained a base in Kawachi through this relationship. Tadanori's son Nobusuke and grandson Yasusue also made Sakado his main territory, and from then on this line came to be known as the Sakado Genji. Yasusue was the first to be called to the northern side of the retired Emperor Shirakawa, and subsequently Sukinori and Chikayasu also became northern sides of Shirakawa and Toba-in.
