Born: 1557. Korosuir, Transylvania
[Died] December 29, 1606. Prince of Transylvania, Kasza, Slovakia (reigned 1605-06). Hungarian national hero. With the help of the Ottoman Empire, he drove back the Austrian army from Transylvania, thwarted the ambition of Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II of the Habsburgs to annex Hungary, and made him pledge to respect political rights and religious freedom throughout Hungary by the Peace of Vienna (6 June 1606). In domestic affairs, he defended the autonomy and religious freedom of the Hungarian nobility, guaranteed nobility to the Hajdu soldiers, and restored the freedom of the Székely people. However, he suddenly died in Kasza (now Košice, Slovakia) one year after ascending to the throne.

トランシルバニア侯 (在位 1605～06) 。ハンガリーの民族的英雄。オスマン帝国の援助を得てトランシルバニアからオーストリア軍を撃退し，ハプスブルク家の神聖ローマ皇帝ルドルフ2世のハンガリー併合の野心をくじき，ウィーン和約 (06.6.) によってハンガリー全土の政治的権利と宗教の自由を尊重することを誓約させた。内政においてはハンガリー貴族の自治権，宗教的自由を擁護し，ハイドゥー兵士に貴族身分を保障，またセーケイ人の自由も回復した。しかし侯位即位後1年にしてカシャ (現スロバキアのコシツェ) で急死した。
