Kagamizuka Tomb

Japanese: 鏡塚古墳 - かがみづかこふん

This keyhole-shaped tumulus is located in Kusaka-ga-zuka, Isohama-cho, Oarai-machi, Higashiibaraki-gun, Ibaraki Prefecture. It was built facing south on an isolated hill overlooking the Kashima Nada Sea. Although part of the front part has been destroyed, it is estimated to be 105m long, with a diameter of 60m at the rear and a width of 36m at the front. It lacks roofing stones. Excavated by Kokugakuin University in 1949, a circular row of cylindrical haniwa clay figures and a burial facility were discovered at the top of the rear part. The burial facility is a long clay coffin built parallel to the main axis of the tumulus. Grave goods excavated included imitation mirrors, beads, combs, talc ritual vessels, swords, and agricultural tools.

茨城県東茨城郡大洗町磯浜町日下ヶ塚に所在する前方後円墳。鹿島灘をのぞむ独立丘陵上に南面して築かれる。前方部の一部が破壊されているが，全長105m，後円部径60m，前方部幅36mと推定されている。葺石を欠く。1949年に国学院大学が発掘し，後円部墳頂において，円形にめぐる円筒埴輪列および埋葬施設を検出した。埋葬施設は，古墳の主軸に平行して営まれた長大な粘土槨である。副葬品として，仿製鏡，玉類，櫛，滑石祭器，刀，農工具類が出土した。
