Reclaimed rubber

Reclaimed rubber

This is rubber that has been separated through physical and chemical processes in order to reuse rubber products such as tires and tubes that can no longer be used. The regeneration method involves first removing foreign objects other than rubber, such as cloth and metal fittings, washing the material with water, and then passing it through special rolls several times to turn it into fine powder. Next, in the desulfurization process, a regenerating agent and oils such as pine oil or mineral oil are added and the material is heated. Finally, in the finishing process, the material is thoroughly kneaded and the particles are crushed to give it plasticity and adhesiveness, resulting in regenerated rubber. Regenerated rubber is not returned to unvulcanized rubber, but the polymer chains are cut, so it has inferior mechanical properties and is rarely used alone. It is used in industrial rubber products such as automobile tires, belts, and hoses, as well as mats, footwear and shoe soles, and rubber-coated cloth. Historically, it is the oldest recycled resource. Powdered rubber is called recycled rubber and is used as a filler in asphalt pavement.
