An old town in the northern part of the Nishisonogi Peninsula, Nishisonogi County, Nagasaki Prefecture. Small settlements such as Omodaka and Nanatsugama are scattered here and there, and farming is carried out on the lava plateau and pearl farming is carried out in Kawauchiura. Yokoseura was famous as a trading post before the port of Nagasaki was opened. The summit of Kokuzo Mountain, a debris hill, offers excellent views and is home to Kotohira Shrine. In the southern part of the town is the Nanatsugama Limestone Cave (a natural monument). 長崎県西彼杵(にしそのぎ)郡,西彼杵半島北部の旧町。面高(おもだか),七釜(ななつがま)など小集落が散在,溶岩台地で畑作,川内浦で真珠養殖が行われる。横瀬浦は長崎開港以前の海外貿易地として有名。砕屑(さいせつ)丘の虚空蔵(こくぞう)山頂は,展望にすぐれ,琴平神社がある。南部に七釜鍾乳洞(天然記念物)がある。2005年4月西彼杵郡西彼町,大島町,崎戸町,大瀬戸町と合併し市制,西海市となる。67.23km2。9229人(2003)。
