A legendary mountain in ancient China. It is also written as Kunlun, and is also called Kunlun Hill or Kunlun Xu. Located in the west of China, it is said to produce jade, and the source of the Yellow River is thought to originate from this mountain. It was originally considered the capital of the heavenly emperor, but later, due to the strong influence of Taoist thought, it came to be considered an ideal afterlife for the ancient Chinese. In other words, it was imagined as a paradise on earth, where the female immortal Queen Mother of the West lived, with a river running around it, whose waters would make one immortal if one drank it. Famous legends include Emperor Yellow Emperor's climb up Kunlun and King Mu of the Western Zhou Dynasty visiting Queen Mother of the West on this mountain.
