…A small terrestrial orchid (illustration) that is most commonly found in lowlands throughout Japan. It is also known as Mojizuri, both of which refer to the appearance of the twisted inflorescence. It has a short rhizome with thick, swollen roots. Most of the leaves grow in a rosette shape at the base. From April to August, the inflorescence appears at the end of a 10-40 cm tall stem, and the flowers grow densely in a right- or left-handed spiral. The flowers are pink-pink with a white lip and a tubular perianth that gathers together. There is no spur. It grows in grasslands, wetlands, cliffs, etc. throughout Japan, and is often found in urban lawns. …
