The founder of the Rattanakosin Dynasty (Bangkok Dynasty) of Thailand (reigned 1782-1809). He was a subordinate of Phraya Taksin, a general at the end of the Ayutthaya Dynasty, and was named Chao Pia Chakri. However, after Taksin became king, he was promoted to the throne due to his military achievements. He conquered Cambodia and waged a war with Burma (present-day Myanmar). He also moved the capital from Thonburi to Bangkok, and compiled and revised the law code, composing the New Law Code.

タイのラタナコーシン朝（バンコク朝）の始祖（在位1782年―1809年）。アユタヤ朝末期の部将プラヤ・タークシンの部下で，名はチャオ・ピア・チャクリといったが，タークシンが王となり，それに従って戦功があったため，タークシンの没後，推されて王位についた。カンボジア攻略，ビルマ（現ミャンマー）との戦争を行った。また首都をトンブリーからバンコクに移し，法典の収集改訂を行い《新法典》を編纂(へんさん)。
