〘noun〙 A name for documents in the Middle Ages. A document issued to convey an order and have it carried out. A document that receives an order from a superior and then conveys it to a subordinate for execution. This refers to documents such as those issued by Rokuhara and Chinzei Tandai to receive and execute Kamakura Shogunate orders (gemon, gechijo, gokyosho) and gechijo and gokyosho, respectively, and documents (hosho) conveying Muromachi Shogunate orders (shogun gokyosho, etc.) by stewards and kanrei. The document format is gechijo and gokyosho, but if the content is to convey an order, it is called an execution letter. It is common to clearly quote the superior's order in the text. Note that there were also cases where orders from the Shogunate were executed by the Shugo, and cases where imperial edicts, insen, and reishis from the Emperor, retired Emperor, and imperial princes were executed, as well as other cases. 〘名〙中世、文書の呼称の一つ。命令を伝達し、実行させるために出される文書。上位者の命令文書を受け、さらにこれを下位の者に伝達し、実行させるための文書。鎌倉幕府の命令文（下文・下知状・御教書）を六波羅・鎮西探題が受けて、これを実行させるために出した文書（下知状・御教書）や、室町幕府の命令（将軍御教書など）を執事・管領が伝達する文書（奉書）などをいう。文書様式は下知状・御教書などであるが、内容が命令を伝達するものである場合、施行状と呼ばれる。上位者の命令文書を文中に明瞭に引用するのが普通。なお、幕府の命令を守護が施行する場合もあり、また天皇・上皇・親王の綸旨・院宣・令旨が施行される場合や、その他の場合もあった。せぎょうじょう。しこうじょう。しぎょう。
