King of Germany (reigned 1024-1039), Holy Roman Emperor (reigned 1027-1039). Founder of the Salier dynasty. He controlled Poland, won Burgundy in another Italian campaign, suppressed the domestic princes, and built the imperial power at its height together with his successor, Henry III.
