Minami Matsuura District, Nagasaki Prefecture, includes the northeastern part of Nakadori Island in the Goto Islands and the surrounding small islands. Arikawa, located in the center of Arikawa Bay, once prospered through whaling. Coastal fishing, including large fixed net fishing, is thriving. The area produces citrus fruits. There is a regular ferry service from Sasebo, and Kamigoto Airport opened in 1981. In August 2004, it merged with Wakamatsu Town, Kamigoto Town, Shinuonome Town, and Narao Town in Minami Matsuura District to form Shinkamigoto Town in Minami Matsuura District. 56.98 ^km2 . Population 7,357 (2003).

長崎県南松浦郡，五島列島の中通(なかどおり)島北東部と周辺の小島を含む。有川湾に臨む中心の有川はかつて捕鯨で栄えた。大型定置網などの沿岸漁業が盛ん。柑橘(かんきつ)類を産する。佐世保から定期船便があり，1981年上五島空港が開港。2004年８月南松浦郡若松町，上五島町，新魚目町，奈良尾町と合併し，南松浦郡新上五島町となる。56.98km²。7357人（2003）。
