798-871 Abū al-Qāsim 'Abd al-Raḥmān was an Egyptian Maliki jurist and historian, author of the History of the Conquest of the Maghreb. Born Abū al-Qāsim 'Abd al-Raḥmān, he was a member of the wealthy and influential family of 'Abd al-Hakam, and wrote records of Egyptian history, topography, and judicial history up to the early Islamic period. His father, Abū Muḥammad 'Abd Allāh (772-829), was the author of the Life of 'Umar II and many other legal works, many of which were lost.
