Container ship - container ship

Japanese:
Container ship - container ship
A ship specializing in the loading and transport of containers. It has a unique design and outfitting that is convenient for loading and unloading, such as a crane that straddles between large hatches and moves back and forth between them. Developed in the United States in 1956-1957, the first full container ship (a ship specializing in containers) appeared in 1968, and became the mainstream of marine transport due to its many advantages, such as a significant reduction in loading and unloading time and integrated sea and land transport. The first container ship in Japan, the Hakone Maru, launched in the same year, had a loading capacity of 16,306 deadweight tons and 752 20-ton containers. Recently, roll-on, roll-off ships (ro-ro ships), which transport containers directly from the quay to the ship using trailers or forklifts, have become popular, instead of lift-on, lift-off ships, which dock at the quay and unload containers using cranes. They are also becoming larger, and container ships that can carry 6,000 20-foot containers have been built.
