Japanese: 光度階級 - こうどかいきゅう

Star classification usually refers to the classification of spectral types, but when classifying in more detail, a second dimension of classification is used: absolute magnitude, or luminosity class. The vertical axis of the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram is nothing other than the luminosity class. There are five classes: supergiants (Ia, Ib), bright giants (II), giants (III), subgiants (IV), and main sequence stars (V). For example, the Sun is a G2 type main sequence star, so it is written as G2V. Vega (Vega) is A0V, and the supergiant Antares is M1Ib.

恒星の分類は，通常はスペクトル型の分類をいうが，さらに詳しく分類する場合には第二次元の分類として絶対等級すなわち光度階級を用いる。ヘルツシュプルング=ラッセル図の縦軸が光度階級にほかならない。階級には，超巨星(Ia，Ib)，輝巨星(II)，巨星(III)，準巨星(IV)，主系列星(V)の5種類がある。例えば，太陽はG2型の主系列星なのでG2Vと書く。ベガ(織女星)はA0V，超巨星のアンタレスはM1Ibである。
