A former town in Yufutsu District, Hokkaido. Facing the Pacific Ocean, it occupies the lowlands downstream of the Mukawa River. Rice is the main agricultural crop, but livestock farming is also thriving. Shishamo fish is a specialty of the town. In March 2006, it merged with Hobetsu Town to become Mukawa Town, Yufutsu District. The Hidaka Main Line runs through the town. 166.43 km2 . 7,096 people (2003).
