A former town in Yufutsu District, Hokkaido. Facing the Pacific Ocean, it occupies the lowlands downstream of the Mukawa River. Rice is the main agricultural crop, but livestock farming is also thriving. Shishamo fish is a specialty of the town. In March 2006, it merged with Hobetsu Town to become Mukawa Town, Yufutsu District. The Hidaka Main Line runs through the town. 166.43 km2 . 7,096 people (2003). 北海道勇払(ゆうふつ)郡の旧町。太平洋に臨み,鵡川(むかわ)下流の低地を占める。米作中心の農業が行われ,畜産も盛ん。シシャモが名産。2006年3月,穂別町と合併し町制,勇払郡むかわ町となる。日高本線が通じる。166.43km2。7096人(2003)。
