This interest in Oko also arose in literature, leading to the appearance of works such as Heichu Monogatari, which portrayed lustful people as Oko, and volume 28 of the Konjaku Monogatarishu contains 44 Oko stories. There is also a theory that these Oko stories are derived from the tales of slander that appear in volume 3 of the Manyoshu, and that Shiinomuraji and others were responsible for them....
