A haiku poet from the late Edo period. Sakurai family. Born in Kanazawa, Kaga. His name was Yoshimichi. He studied under Ranko Monbarai. His first pen name was Yukio, later Soshin and Soshin. His other pen names included Houensai. In the autumn of 1800 (Kansei 12), he succeeded Kaian in Kanazawa, and the following spring published the haiku anthology Saru no Men. In 1804 (Bunka 1), he handed over his ancestral job as a sword sharpener for the Kaga domain to his apprentice, and in 1807 he moved to Tokyo. He lived in Osaka from 1820 (Bunsei 3) until the year after, and in Edo for 12 years from 1823. With his simple techniques and plain style, he gained many disciples from all over the country, and in 1851 (Kaei 4), he was given the title of Motososho (master of flower) by the Nijo family. He died in Kyoto. In later years, he was considered one of the three great masters of the Tenpo period, along with Sokyu and Horo. 江戸後期の俳人。桜井氏。加賀金沢の人。名は能充(よしみち)。闌更(らんこう)門馬来(ばらい)に師事。初号は雪雄のち素芯(そしん)、素信。別号に方円斎など。1800年(寛政12)秋に金沢の槐庵(かいあん)を継ぎ、翌春俳諧撰集(はいかいせんしゅう)『さるのめん』を出版。1804年(文化1)に先祖代々の加賀藩研刀師の職を弟子に譲り、1807年に上京。1820年(文政3)から翌々年まで大坂、1823年から12年間江戸に住し、簡易な作法、平易な作風をもって諸国に多くの門人を得、1851年(嘉永4)二条家から花の本宗匠(もとそうしょう)の称号を受けた。京で没。後年、蒼虬(そうきゅう)、鳳朗(ほうろう)とともに天保(てんぽう)三大家の1人とされる。 ふゆの夜や針うしなふておそろしき 出典 小学館 日本大百科全書(ニッポニカ)日本大百科全書(ニッポニカ)について 情報 | 凡例 |
