[Born] 1510. Salamanca
Died September 22, 1554, Mexico City. Spanish explorer and soldier. Under the orders of Viceroy A. Mendoza, he led an expedition to the Colorado River Basin and the southwestern United States from 1540 to 1542, which became a foothold for Spanish colonial policy.
